This VERY RARE Oruro mint (not common Potosi, which is 90% of Bars) 10lb ATOCHA SILVER BAR INGOT is 39.7 x 12.2 x 9 cm (now just under cm thick) or approx.15 3/4 x 5 x 3/8, HUGE BAR! 90; Carat 2380, TSI #85A-S343A (1985 Atocha); listed on Manifest 1158 (Register / Page P8385vo). This particular piece has the HIGHEST Purity 2380 or 2400 kt. As marked right on the bar (MMCCCLXXX) and high Class factor. The markings are very nice and clear as is the Assayers scoop which NOTICE is at the Edge of the Bar versus from the middle, determining it was from the ORURO mint - NOT POTOSI, very RARE! This mint "ORURO" is approx. 150 miles from Potosi and began it's discovery in 1607.
Which when they built the new Caja Real (Royal Treasury). The discovery was so big that the Viceroy Principe de Esquilache ordered 500 Indian miners to be transferred from the mines of Garci Mendoza.
Whats particularly nice about this piece is that it has the FULL SIZE (15.75 x 5) without weighing over 88lbs, which is difficult to handle, carry or lift (increasing the desirability of this Rarely seen weight). We are ONLY Aware of 4 BAR SLICES in existence.
