999 Gold & Silver Proof Set in Chest Pre Columbian Series Probably one of the rarest sets of the entire Pre-Columbian Civilizations Series! While the actual number of these sets were not officially recorded, the mintages of the coins in the set are known, with the quarter-ounce Gold coin being the rarest at a mere 802 coins minted (ref KM# 585).

How many of these were put in the sets? Perhaps as few as 50?

There was a reason why official numbers were not recorded, with speculation being that the sets may have been "gifted" to a handful of VIPs, probably one hand washing the other. One thing is for certain, complete sets NEVER come available!

There are apparently very few of these around. Note: Even the silver proof coins are all very limited mintages of between 1,500 and few thousand or so each. BULLION CONTENT: 1/4 TROY OZ PURE. 999 GOLD & 6.75 TROY OZ. 999 PURE SILVER CONDITION COMMENTS: These proof coins are excellent, probably always in their plastic capsules.

However, two of the silver coins are in capsules that are cracked and the capsules need to be replaced, be aware. One silver coin is visibly tarnished, probably it's capsule was the first to break. Again, the coins are in excellent condition and the natural tarnish, if nothing else, provides additional evidence that the coins have NOT been fooled with, cleaned, etc.

This is a rare find. Included is the set is the English language info booklet with a half-dozen pages of interesting information about the Veracruz Culture, as well as info about the coins in the set. No tears or writing, the booklet is in good condition.

CHEST: The attractive solid wooden chest has a beautiful decorative lid. The piano-hinge is coming up a bit on the right side with a bit of wood loss visible from the inside of the box if you look closely (see close-up pic). An easy repair for someone who knows what to do.
